Journey Towards the Diaconate |
My real journey towards the diaconate began on March 24, 2015 when Allison and I attended a Deacon Information night at St. Mary's in New Bedford. Around 40-50 men attended, some with wives. We quickly learned that once a Deacon you cannot remarry if your wife passes away, nor are you being ordained for your specific parish but for any parish within a reasonable radius of your house. Attendance at this started to fall away due to this information.
Diaconate informational sessions continued through May that year. For more information see Days Gone By.
I have to say I am truly humbled by the support and prayers from people at my home church of Holy Family! Many people have stopped after Mass to let me know they are praying for us. Without their prayers who knows...who knows...
The start of classes on September 8th 2015 had us down to 12 men, one a Subdeacon halfway through his studies. Deacon Brian was ordained on May 13th, 2017. We were then at nine guys. Please pray for Paul, Richard, Tony, David, Matthew, Keith, George and myself as we go forward with our ministry!
